Global Glimpse

Explore Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Panama, or Costa Rica! Global Glimpse students engage in several virtual pre-trip workshops before participating in a 14-day international experience focused on service-learning, cultural immersion, and leadership development. The Global Glimpse program builds empathy, agency, and global perspective to empower students from all backgrounds to succeed in college and drive change locally and globally.

  • Program Length: 14 days

  • Dates: Global Glimpse offers numerous trips during the 
    summer that you can choose from. You can express your preference when completing your application. Check out Global Glimpse's website for a full list of trip dates. 

  • Transportation: Flights & ground transportation (primarily bus) during the program. All paid for!

  • Participant Mix: Each trip will have 15-22 participants from different high schools. You may not have any Summer Searchers on your trip. 

  • ​​​Accommodations: Dorm-style accommodations

  • Phone Access: No access during the program, but will have access on flying days. You'll have access to the trip leader's phone to make calls home & share updates with families on Global Glimpse's blog. 

  • COVID Policy: No requirements.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES & SKILLS

  • Immerse in local culture, history, and nature with themed days such as: Community, Working Like a Local, Deconstructing Poverty, Education, Aid & Development, and Business

  • Focus and learn about a theme unique to each country, such as: Immigration in the Dominican Republic, Indigenous Worldviews in Ecuador, and Environmental Conservation in Costa Rica.​​

  • Participate in experiential learning through field trips to farms, factories, businesses, NGOs, schools, national parks, museums, volcanos, or waterfalls.

  • Practice design thinking and sustainable service by completing a Community Action Project

  • Cultivate courage, commitment, and compassion by being a Student Leader of the Day

  • Four Global Glimpse adults will be on each trip. There will be 2 Global Glimpse staff members (also known as Program Coordinators), who live in the country you're visiting, plus 2 Global Glimpse leaders who are local, US educators.

  • And 20 Community Service Hours!

  • (Optional) Opportunity to join the Alumni Ambassador Program during your senior year of high school! This consists of 4 summits focused on college and career readiness. 

THIS EXPERIENCE IS A FIT FOR students who...

  • Feel comfortable traveling outside of the United States on a plane

  • Are able to apply & receive a passport (if you don't have one already).* A valid, unexpired passport valid six months after travel is required to travel with Global Glimpse and to re-enter to the United States after traveling internationally. 

  • Are interested in exploring and learning about different cultures & communities 

  • Are able to commit to several pre-trip workshops

  • Open to stepping outside your comfort zone

  • Family is supportive of international travel

If you have been placed on Global Glimpse, please attend all of the mandatory workshops to make sure you're best prepared for your trip!

iMPORTANT DATES: PRE-TRIP WORKSHOPS

If you have been placed on Global Glimpse, you and one parent/guardian should attend one Family Info Session. More details will be in your placement email sent out the week of January 22.
