SUMMER@BROWN

Summer@Brown Pre-College program is a 1- or 2-week academic experience where students will take rigorous college level courses and get a taste for undergraduate life at Brown University in Providence, RI. Students will live in dorm rooms, have roommates, choose academic and extracurricular classes, and participate in various social activities without the formal pressure of credits or grades. This program prepares students for their next steps both in and out of the classroom!

  • Location: Brown University in Providence, RI

  • Program Length: 1 and 2 weeks

  • Dates: Brown hosts multiple sessions during the summer. Your session dates will depend on which course you select
    (not all courses are available during each session)

    • June 23-June 28 (1 week)​

    • June 23-July 5 (2 week)

    • June 30-July 12 (2 week)

    • July 7-July 12 (1 week)

    • July 14-July 19 (1 week)

    • July 14-July 26 (2 week)

  • Participant Mix: Mix of students from all over the world. You may not have another Summer Searcher on your same Summer Session.

  • Transportation: Flight & airport shuttle from Boston Airport to Brown University (Summer Search pays!) 

  • Accommodations: Dorms, sharing a room with another participant

  • Bathrooms: Shared dorm bathrooms

  • Phone Access: You'll have your phone throughout the program

  • COVID Policy: COVID vaccine and booster required, or medical/religious exemption.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES & SKILLS

  • Be in class for 3 hours a day, five days a week and make time for two to three additional hours of studying 

  • Learn about a specific interest or area of study

  • Develop time management and personal accountability skills by keeping track of your own schedule 

  • Participate in college prep workshops, activities, and events put on by the program

THIS EXPERIENCE IS A FIT FOR students who...

  • Are interested in living on a college campus

  • Are comfortable navigating new systems and spaces on your own

  • Have a high follow-through to complete the application, register for courses, and manage time between classes and social activities

  • Are high-achieving student with mostly A's and some B's on transcript - if you don't meet these requirements, it is highly recommended to get a teacher recommendation

  • Are currently on track to graduate high school and in good academic standing

  • Have a strong grasp of English 

  • Have or are able to get a government-issued ID for travel

program requirements to keep in mind...

  • For the application, you'll need to provide:

    • Writing sample of 250-500 words required for application

    • 2 years of academic grades

      • Ideally, your transcript will have mostly A's and some B's ​

    • (optional) Teacher recommendation

      • This is highly recommended if you do not meet the grade requirements​

  • You and a family member/guardian is expected to attend a virtual program orientation prior to your experience​

  • You will not receive college credit for this program
